Overview

Biogas Flow Meter is designed for the flow measurements of wet biogas in case of changing composition of gases without necessity of temperature and pressure correction under standard operation conditions.

The measuring principle of the meter is thermal mass flow measurement using two platinum RTD sensors, which gives stable readings regardless of the operating range.

Due to the absence of movable parts in the measuring channel, the meter requires minimum maintenance and provides reliable measurements of biogas flow in case of high moisture content.

It can be applied in the anaerobic digestion plants, sewage treatment plants, landfill sites, and waste-to-energy facilities.

Working Principle

Flow Conditioning of Biogas

The biogas gets into the meter housing and passes through the measuring section, where due to its internal design it provides the stabilization of the gas flow prior to the sensing element.

Thermal Measurement Principle

Two platinum RTD sensors get installed in the flow. One sensor registers the temperature of the gas flow, whereas another one maintains the fixed temperature difference relative to the first one.

Heat Losses Measurement

When the biogas flows around the heated sensor, it carries off part of heat. The quantity of heat losses is dependent on the gas flow rate, thus enabling the measurement of flow rate.

Signal Conditioning

The electronics maintain the fixed temperature difference by controlling the power supplied to the heated sensor. It is directly proportional to the gas flow rate.

Flow Rate Calculation and Output

The calculation and conversion of raw data in engineering units are performed inside the electronics of the flowmeter. Depending on the model, the processed information can be delivered to the monitoring system via one of the standard outputs (4-20 mA, pulse, RS485 Modbus).
