What Is a Flow Meter?
A flow meter is a device used to measure the instantaneous flow rate or quantity of a gas or liquid passing through a pipeline. Flow meters are also known as flow gauges, flow indicators, liquid meters, and other industry-specific names.
While terminology varies by industry, the core function remains the same. Digital flow meters can log data and transmit measurements to a flow controller, PLC, or SCADA system. They can also help control ongoing flow in pipes, while a batcher feature makes it easier to deliver a set quantity into a process.
Why Do I Need a Precision Flowmeter?
The amount of fluid passing through a custody-transfer process can be substantial. With the value of oil and gas, expensive chemicals, pharmaceutical ingredients, and industrial fuel, even a small measurement error may have a significant economic effect. Selecting an accurate, dependable flowmeter is therefore critical.
