compressed air flow meter

compressed air flow meter

This air flow meter is designed specifically for thermal mass measurements in a compressor line and will enable direct consumption measurements without making any adjustments to pressure or temperature. The meter is intended to help plant managers identify leakages, improve pneumatic efficiency, and minimize energy waste from the supply lines in the industry. This reliable air flow meter is manufactured by reliable manufacturers of compressed air flow meters.

Overview

Through direct thermal dispersion technology, this inline device determines the true mass flow rate of the pneumatic distribution system without needing any pressure or temperature transmitters.

The sensing probe consists of two platinum RTDs that are surrounded by stainless steel protection to prevent effects of moisture and oil aerosols and pressure spikes.

Designed for detecting leakages in pipelines and load balancing in the facilities, this compressor air flow meter reduces the total energy consumption of the entire compressor plant.

With a high turndown ratio and low pressure loss, this device fits easily into the automated management systems.

Working Principle

Pipeline Insertion & Flow Stabilization
High-pressure air from the compressor system enters the straight pipe run where the meter is installed. The internal housing conditions the incoming air stream, smoothing out sudden velocity spikes and turbulence before the air hits the primary sensing elements.

Dual-Sensor Thermal Sensing
The air stream passes directly over two wetted RTD (Resistance Temperature Detector) probes inserted into the flow path. One probe acts as a passive reference measuring the actual air temperature, while the second probe is an active element held at a precisely controlled higher temperature.

Convective Heat Dissipation
As compressed air molecules sweep past the heated probe, they carry away thermal energy through convective cooling. The faster the air moves—or the denser the compressed air stream is the more heat it absorbs from the sensor surface.

Smart Power Adjustment
To keep the temperature difference between the two probes constant, the internal circuitry immediately adjusts the electrical power sent to the heated sensor. Because heat loss depends directly on gas mass rather than simple volumetric speed, this dynamic power change measures true mass flow without needing separate pressure or temperature compensation.

Digital Conversion & Control Telemetry
The microprocessor translates this electrical power consumption into standardized flow units (such as $Nm^3/hr$ or $SCFM$). An integrated compressor air flow meter transmitter then updates the local display and sends an automated 4–20mA or Modbus signal straight to your facility’s energy management panel for leak detection and air audit tracking.
