rotary paddle level switch

Rotary Paddle Level Switch

Rotary Paddle Level Switch is an instrument that can provide accurate level sensing in storage tanks having bulk solids, powder, and granules as its content. The paddle wheel inside the instrument is made to rotate by motor until it stops when coming in contact with the substance, thereby switching the levels. This instrument uses robust mechanical construction technology, hence ideal for various industries.

Overview

The Rotary Paddle Level Switch is used for point level detection in bulk solids like powders, granules, and pellets through rotating a paddle in the material by means of a low speed motor.

Once the material contacts the paddle, it gets restrained and the motor comes to a halt thereby triggering the built-in SPDT microswitch for level sensing.

This switch can be installed in hoppers, bins, and silos and can be installed as a top mount for high level detection.

For environments where there is the risk of explosion due to flammable dust, the switches are available with flameproof enclosures.

Working Principle

Free Paddle Rotation

The free rotation of the low-speed synchronous motor fitted in the tank causes the continuous rotation of the stainless steel paddle in the tank if the storage vessel is empty or the material level is below the detection point.

Material Detection

With the rising level of powder, granules, or other bulk materials, the material level reaches the paddle and obstructs its free rotation.

Motor Stalling

After being fully covered with the material, the increased resistance makes the motor stall. The motor is designed in such a way that it can stall without any harm.

Switch Actuation

The stall in the motor actuates an internal switch of the motor to change the electrical contact state showing that the material level reaches the preset point.

Control Output

This output signal can be used to control alarms, conveyor belts, or other process equipment to prevent overflow or to maintain the material level.

Why Rotary Paddle Level Switch

Effective Material Level Detection: The Rotary Paddle Level Switch provides continuous material level detection and operates upon material coverage of the paddle, thus helping avoid overfilling.

Robust Mechanism: A low-speed synchronous motor is intended to stall in case the material obstructs the paddle movement, hence providing durability.

Safety Standards: The switch can be supplied with a flame-proof housing for use in potentially explosive environments, including those with combustible dust.

Installation Convenience: Top mount and side mount versions are offered for installation into bins, hoppers, and silos for efficient point level detection.

Got Questions?

Frequently Asked Questions

An internal synchronous motor drives a paddle at a slow 1 RPM speed; when solid bulk material surrounds and stalls the paddle, the motor shifts to actuate an internal micro-switch.
