Y Type Strainer
The Y Type Strainer is used to shield downstream equipment from any debris that might be present in process pipelines. The small size of the Y type strainer allows minimum pressure drop and ensures good efficiency of filtration. Being suitable for either horizontal or vertical installation, the strainer serves to protect important equipment like pumps, valves, etc.
Overview
This type of strainer is manufactured to remove any undesirable solid matter, dirt, and other contaminants present in the pipelines.
This strainer has a small body with the shape of the letter Y and consists of an easily removable filter that blocks contaminants without causing pressure losses inside the pipeline.
The strainer is useful for protecting valuable pieces of equipment, including pumps, flow meters, control valves, and heat exchangers.
Due to its different types of materials and connections, it can be applied in the following media: water, air, gases, petroleum, steam, and industrial processes.
Features
- Compact design with low pressure drop.
- Flat seated screen for proper sealing.
- Easy cleaning and replacement of filter element.
- Protects pumps, flow meters, control valves, heat exchangers and spray nozzles.
- Removes mud, rust, debris and suspended particles from the process fluid.
- Can be installed in horizontal or vertical pipelines.
- Rugged construction with adequate body and screen strength.
- Interchangeable filter element for easy maintenance.

Working Principle
Entry of Process Fluid
The Y Type Strainer is fitted right on the pipeline where the process fluid enters through the inlet connection point. The purpose of this device is to prevent solid contamination of sensitive parts of the equipment located downstream from it.
Change of Fluid Flow Direction
In the body of this Y strainer, the fluid moves into the filtering chamber that contains the screen. In such a way, efficient filtration occurs without interrupting the flow of the liquid in the pipeline.
Filtration of Contamination
Fluid moves through the SS316 mesh Y strainer and during its movement, all the dirt, rust, and other particles are retained in the filter screen. After filtration, the clean fluid moves through the mesh and back into the pipeline.
Debris Removal
After the contaminants get trapped in the screen, they can be easily removed via the drain connection. A Y Type Strainer with a blow off drain valve helps to clean the screen without removing it from the pipeline.

Why Y Type Strainer
Entry of Process Fluid: The Y Type Strainer is fixed in the pipeline in such a manner that the process fluid enters the strainer from its inlet connection. The function of this strainer is to protect downstream devices from solid contaminants.
Change of Direction of Flow of Fluid: The Y-Type shape of the body causes the flow of fluid in such a way that the fluid enters into the filtering chamber where the screen element is fixed.
Filtration of Contaminants: The fluid will move further through the SS316 mesh Y strainer element where contaminants such as dirt, rust, etc., are filtered out from the fluid. The fluid will flow further through the mesh and back to the pipeline.
Removal of Debris: The contaminants captured by the screen can be removed through the drain or blow-off connection. A Y Type Strainer with a blow off drain valve makes the cleaning easier without removing the strainer from the pipeline.
